In addition, the “Year of the Arts” poster campaign designed by USU professor Mike Daines’ design consultancy, Afton Klein Group, won a merit award. The “Year of the Arts” poster series was also recognized by the University and College Designers Association, a national competition for professional design created for higher education institutions. Of 1,060 submissions this year, The Year of the Arts posters were chosen as one of the 215 projects selected to be exhibited in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and received one of 12 Silver Awards. The posters are now part of the UCDA’s permanent design collection.

Favorite thing about USU: “I loved how accessible nature was in Logan (Utah in general). Design can be a tough business trying to stay ahead of the trend and keeping a balance between creativity and client feedback. The outdoors offered an opportunity to clear my mind and refocus whenever I began to doubt my abilities as a designer. More specific to USU’s art and design program, I was very grateful for my professors. I always felt encouraged to push boundaries even if it didn’t quite fit the assignment description.”
